I had the privilege of being part of the glassblowing department at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2003-2006 taking I.A.P. (independent activities period) classes and helping as a practice monitor for new glassblowing students. It was such a pleasure to be around such an inspiring and diverse group of students, instructors and faculty that truly strive to make the world a better place. I loved watching Peter Houk, Whitney Cornforth and Brendon Edwards create masterpieces before my eyes. I especially miss Whitney’s classes. Whitney has the unique ability to teach and oversee multiple projects and instantly give advice during the quickly changing glassblowing process. Glassblowing is all about teamwork and it’s a beautiful thing when things come together planned or unplanned to create an object. Below are some glass vessels from classes at M.I.T. , Artsquest Glass Studio in P.A. , Simple Syrup in Brockton, M.A. and The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning New York.
Torching bottom of vase. Thankyou Whitney for the zig zag cane rollup.
